CHEPSTOW MAN DAVID ASTON FACES JAIL OVER HISTORIC SEXUAL ABUSE IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE

In a case that has shocked the local community of Chepstow and the surrounding Gloucestershire area, David Aston, aged 52, of Alice Crescent in Chepstow, was found guilty of multiple serious charges related to the sexual abuse of a young boy over three decades ago. The conviction was handed down after a jury at Gloucester Crown Court carefully considered the evidence presented during the trial.

According to the court proceedings, Aston was convicted on eight counts of indecency and gross indecency with a child under the age of 16. Some of these offenses were committed when Aston himself was under 16 years old, highlighting the disturbing nature of the case. The victim, now in his forties, provided a detailed account of the abuse he endured as a young boy, revealing that the assaults began when he was just five years old and continued until he moved away from the area.

The court heard that Aston had threatened the young boy, warning him not to disclose what was happening, telling him he would kill him if he did. The victim described feeling terrified and helpless during the ordeal. He recounted how the trauma had a lasting impact on his life, leading to periods of confusion about his sexuality and feelings of being an outsider. The victim also shared that he had ended up living on the streets of London, where he sold the Big Issue, and struggled with his identity and emotional well-being.

The victim explained that he decided to come forward with his story after reaching a point where he could no longer suppress the memories and feelings associated with the abuse. He was encouraged by his partner to seek help and report the matter to authorities. During cross-examination, Aston’s defense lawyer, Jason Coulter, suggested that the allegations might be fabricated, implying that the victim had invented the claims. However, the victim firmly responded, “I’m saying you’re wrong,” reaffirming the truth of his account.

Following the conviction, Judge William Hart deferred sentencing Aston until August 14. The judge indicated that Aston was likely to face an immediate custodial sentence and emphasized that he would be required to comply with the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act. The case has brought to light the long-lasting effects of childhood abuse and the importance of justice for victims, regardless of how much time has passed since the offenses occurred.
