MAN JAILED AFTER GROOMING '12-YEAR-OLD'
A 49-year-old man who arranged a meeting with a girl he believed to be twelve through online chatrooms, only to discover he had been deceived, has received a prison sentence exceeding two years.David Asser, residing on Hertford Road, admitted to one count of trying to engage in sexual communication with a minor under 16 and another of attempting to meet a minor under 16 as part of grooming activities.
On November 23rd, he was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court to 28 months in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for ten years.
His online conversations with the girl began in November 2020.
Despite her claiming to be twelve, Asser persisted in communicating with her, including making sexually explicit proposals.
Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was chatting with was actually an adult pretending to be a young girl.
Over the following week, Asser continued to talk and made plans to meet, while maintaining sexually explicit exchanges.
On December 7th, Asser went to meet the girl at a location in Mandeville Road, Freezywater.
His arrival was interrupted when he was confronted and detained by an online civilian group.
Authorities were contacted, leading to his arrest.
Investigations at his residence uncovered evidence of his grooming efforts and attempts to sexually exploit the fictitious girl he believed he was communicating with.
