DARREN STANTON FROM BEDFORD JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEEN GIRL
In October 2019, a teenage girl who was subjected to sexual abuse bravely shared her feelings of relief upon the discovery of her ordeal, following the sentencing of Darren Stanton, a 50-year-old man from a small village north of Bedford.Stanton was convicted of sexually assaulting the young girl over a period of approximately two years and was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison.
During a court hearing, the victim delivered an emotional impact statement, expressing her deep feelings of anger and distress about the abuse she endured.
She also voiced her concerns about how this traumatic experience might impact her future prospects.
Her words reflected the profound effect the abuse had on her mental health and academic performance.
She recounted that during the two years of suffering, her school life was severely disrupted.
Her academic grades plummeted, and she expressed uncertainty about whether she would be able to recover academically or regain her previous standing.
The girl described feeling isolated and alone during the period of abuse, which compounded her emotional suffering.
However, she also conveyed a sense of relief once her abuse was uncovered.
She stated, “When it all came out, I felt a sense of relief that I didn’t need to be alone anymore,” highlighting the importance of justice and support in her recovery process.
The abuse was brought to light when a third party discovered Stanton’s misconduct and reported it to the police.
Following the investigation, Stanton was arrested and faced multiple charges, including two counts of sexual assault and six counts of sexual assault by penetration.
On the Thursday of the sentencing, at Luton Crown Court, Stanton was handed a six-year prison term.
In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a restraining order, aimed at protecting the victim and preventing further offenses.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of Stanton’s crimes and the ongoing need for safeguarding vulnerable individuals in the community.
