December 2011 City paedophile jailed A PAEDOPHILE from Truro has been given a 12-month jail sentence after grooming a teenage girl on the Facebook website. The communications between Darren Saunders, 23, and the 13-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, led to them having full sexual intercourse, Truro Crown Court heard on Friday. The girl, said Maurice Champion, for the defence, had invited Saunders into her home and her bedroom. “The Facebook contacts were two-way and became increasingly sexual,” he stressed. Prosecutor Iain Leadbetter said investigations revealed the girl had been intimate with two boys previously. Saunders, a man of previous good character, had admitted at the first opportunity allegations of grooming, penetration and sexual intercourse. Judge John Neligan said he was satisfied the exchanges had been two-way and the girl had invited him to her home when her parents were out for the day. Saunders, of Lander Court, Truro, was jailed for 12 months, less the 132 days he had already spent in custody. Saunders must sign on the sex offenders register for the next ten years.
