11-YEAR SENTENCE FOR DONCASTER MAN WHO THREATENED TO KILL EX-GIRLFRIEND WITH SAMURAI SWORD DURING BREAK-IN
A man from Doncaster has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after breaking into his ex-girlfriend's residence and threatening her with a Samurai sword while her young son was asleep upstairs.Darren Daniel, aged 34, had previously issued threats involving a firearm and, in a separate incident, caused head injuries to her 11-year-old son after forcefully entering their home.
On April 5, Daniel and an accomplice gained entry by smashing a patio door as the woman and her son slept.
Armed with the sword, he threatened her, saying, “I’m going to kill you.” A subsequent public appeal led authorities to locate Daniel later that morning, hiding in a cupboard at an address in Dunscroft.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges at Sheffield Crown Court and was sentenced accordingly.
The second suspect remains unfound.
Detective Inspector Anna Sedgwick from the South Yorkshire Police domestic abuse unit commented, “This sentence has put a violent domestic abuser behind bars.
His victim has shown incredible amounts of courage in speaking out about the appalling abuse she suffered at the hands of Daniel.
Without her bravery, this result would not have been possible.
“I hope anyone who finds themselves in an abusive situation can read this and be encouraged to confide in someone; whether that’s a trusted friend, neighbour or family member.
By telling someone, or approaching the police, the abuser can be dealt with and victims can again feel safe in their own homes.
