DONCASTER MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER WAITING UNTIL VICTIM FELL ASLEEP
A 56-year-old man from Doncaster has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after raping a woman who had fallen asleep at a party.
Named Darrell Crookes and residing on Belvedere Drive, he was convicted of the crime following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
South Yorkshire Police stated that Crookes waited until the woman was asleep after an event in 2021 before carrying out the assault.
The victim woke to Crookes telling her, "I am going to pull your pants off," shortly before he raped her.
He was found guilty of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
Detective Sergeant Fiona Trussell expressed admiration for the victim, highlighting her bravery, and said, "this incident has had an obviously devastating effect on the victim, and I would like to praise her for her tremendous courage and dignity during the investigation and court proceedings." She also expressed the hope that the sentencing would help her in progressing with her life after the ordeal.
