DANNY BYRNE FROM WREXHAM CAUGHT IN PAEDOPHILE PLOT INVOLVING ONLINE CHAT AND EXPLICIT VIDEOS
In August 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Danny Byrne, a 23-year-old man from Stryt-Issa in Penycae, Wrexham, who believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl online.Unbeknownst to him, he was actually speaking to members of the 'Guardians of the North,' a vigilant group dedicated to exposing online predators.
This group had created a fake profile, posing as a young girl, to lure potential offenders into incriminating themselves.
According to court records, Byrne engaged in casual online chatter with the fictitious profile, which initially appeared innocent.
However, the conversation escalated on August 24 of the previous year, when Byrne initiated flirtatious exchanges.
He sent a message saying, “hey baby, what you doing gorgeous?” to the fake profile, which responded that she was alone.
Byrne then inquired about her activities and proceeded to send four explicit videos of himself, including footage of him in the shower and masturbating.
Over the course of the conversation, he sent a total of nine videos, all depicting sexually explicit acts.
After requesting the girl to send him pictures, Byrne's online interlocutor, part of the 'Guardians of the North,' relayed the details to the police.
Law enforcement officers swiftly acted on this information and arrested Byrne at his residence in Ewloe.
During police interviews, Byrne claimed he could not recall the sexual references made during the chat but admitted to other conversations.
A search of his mobile devices uncovered 118 photographs depicting extreme pornography, including images involving bestiality.
Prosecutors highlighted that Byrne had a sexual interest in girls under the age of 13 and in animals.
On June 1, this year, Byrne was found guilty at Mold Crown Court of ten offences, which included three counts of making indecent photographs and five counts of attempting to induce a child to engage in sexual activity.
The court heard that Byrne had been caught through the online sting operation conducted by the 'Guardians of the North.' Deputy District Judge David Hale sentenced Byrne to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.
During the sentencing, the judge emphasized the gravity of Byrne’s actions, stating, “You have no business talking to a 13-year-old girl, someone you thought was a 13-year-old girl.
You have no business looking at porn — people having sex with animals.” The judge warned Byrne that if he committed similar offences again, he would face immediate imprisonment.
He also pointed out that Byrne should be quite afraid of going to prison, as he would face significant challenges there.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Byrne was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, was subject to a sexual harm prevention order, and was prohibited from contacting any child under the age of 16.
The court’s decision reflects the serious concern over Byrne’s predatory behavior and the potential risk posed to children and animals alike.
