DANNY BAILEY FROM HESSLE SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE RAPE OFFENSES AND THREATS IN HULL

In April 2022, a disturbing case unfolded involving Danny Bailey, a teenage sex offender from Hessle, who committed a series of heinous crimes against young girls in Hull. The court heard that Bailey, then just 15 years old, engaged in a series of sexual assaults and threats that have left lasting scars on his victims.

One of the most troubling aspects of the case was Bailey's assault on a 13-year-old girl in December 2016. Despite her feeling unwell at the time, Bailey kissed, cuddled, and forcibly engaged in sexual activity with her. The young girl, who froze during the assault, later confided in her mother about what had happened. At the time, she was unaware that her experience constituted rape, but she eventually understood the gravity of the incident. She described feeling relief that the ordeal was over, though the emotional impact remained.

Another victim, a 14-year-old girl, was subjected to two separate rapes by Bailey. The first occurred when she was feeling ill, and Bailey, then 18, took advantage of her vulnerability. He manipulated her into believing he was a friend, and during a casual chat in his bedroom, he began touching her inappropriately. A few days later, Bailey invited her to his house, where he forcibly removed her leggings and underwear before engaging in sexual intercourse with her. The second incident took place in January 2020, when she agreed to visit his home again. During this encounter, Bailey became aggressive, grabbing her wrists, threatening to kill her, and even placing his hands around her throat. Despite her fear, she hoped he would stop, but he pushed her onto the bed and raped her once more. The girl later described feeling more violated during the second assault and expressed how her mental health had deteriorated significantly as a result.

Bailey’s disturbing behavior extended beyond these assaults. He also harassed a 17-year-old girl, whom he initially approached in a seemingly friendly manner. Rumors of his previous crimes appeared to trigger a violent and threatening reaction from him. He threatened to throw her off a bridge, kill her, chop her up, and put her in his Nan’s freezer. On another occasion, he rode his bicycle aggressively into her leg, pushing her into a bush after she called emergency services. The girl recounted feeling terrified during these encounters, with her heart racing and a desperate desire to escape from Bailey’s threatening presence.

Throughout the proceedings, Judge John Thackray QC condemned Bailey’s actions, emphasizing the vulnerability of his victims. He pointed out that Bailey had raped the first girl while she was unwell and crying, ignoring her pleas to stop, and had engaged in victim-blaming afterward. The judge highlighted that the second girl, who was mentally vulnerable, was raped twice within a few weeks, with Bailey lying about his age to gain her trust. The judge described Bailey’s conduct as “worrying in the extreme,” especially given the threats he made to the third girl, which included violent and murderous threats.

Following a comprehensive investigation by Humberside Police, Bailey was convicted of three counts of rape and one count of harassment. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in a young offenders’ institution. Additionally, he will serve a seven-year extended license period upon release, as he was classified as a dangerous offender. The court also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, a restraining order, and mandated that Bailey register as a sex offender for life. His actions have had a profound and lasting impact on his victims, with the court acknowledging that some may never fully recover from the trauma inflicted upon them.
