DANIEL JOSLIN, SEX OFFENDER FROM CANTERBURY, ON THE RUN IN RUGBY AND OAK STREET

In May 2022, law enforcement authorities issued a nationwide alert to locate Daniel Joslin, a registered sex offender who had recently been released from prison and was considered a significant threat to young women and girls. The police are actively searching for Joslin, 40 years old, after he failed to adhere to the mandatory notification requirements that are part of his parole conditions following his release.

He was last observed in the early morning hours of May 25, near St Marie's Catholic Church situated on Oak Street in Rugby. Witnesses also reported seeing him in and around the Rugby train station, raising concerns about his whereabouts and potential risk to the community. Joslin is described as a white male, approximately six feet tall, with an average build. He is known to use multiple aliases and walks with a noticeable limp, which can aid in his identification. At the time of his last sighting, he was dressed in a dark-colored jumper and grey joggers.

The Metropolitan Police issued a stark warning, emphasizing Joslin's dangerous history. They stated, “He has previously targeted young women and girls and is considered to be a risk to both. If Joslin is seen, do not approach him but call 999 immediately.” This warning underscores the potential danger he poses, given his past offenses and recent failure to comply with legal obligations.

Joslin's criminal record is extensive, particularly in relation to sexual offenses. His history includes a 2012 conviction for grooming a schoolgirl via Facebook, which culminated in a sexual assault. He was sentenced to four years in prison for these crimes. His previous convictions also include charges of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, distributing indecent images of children, and repeatedly breaching a sexual prevention order. His criminal activities have spanned over several years, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior and attempts to evade law enforcement.

This is not the first time police have issued a public appeal to find Joslin. Previously, he went missing in East London and was wanted for failing to comply with notification requirements and breaching court bail conditions. Looking back at his earlier criminal conduct, in May 2012, Joslin was sentenced to four years in prison for grooming a teenage girl on Facebook. During that case, he used seven different identities to contact his victim, a girl from Maidstone, and engaged in sexual activities with her. He also sent her over 100 images and videos depicting child abuse. Despite being under a sexual prevention order at the time, Joslin continued to pursue his criminal activities, demonstrating a blatant disregard for legal restrictions.

His arrest was prompted by the victim’s mother, who reported her concerns to police. Investigators traced his online activity and linked him to the false identities he employed. Detective Constable Michael Brown of Kent Police commented on the case, stating, “Joslin is a prolific offender who has groomed and assaulted a vulnerable child. He has a history of avoiding the consequences of his actions, and I am pleased that we have been able to bring him to justice.”

Following his conviction, Joslin was sentenced at the Old Bailey and is now serving his term. Upon release, he will be subject to an extended five-year license period, during which he will be closely monitored. Additionally, a sexual offences prevention order will restrict his access to children and the internet, aiming to prevent further harm and protect the community from his predatory behavior.
