A THUG WHO REPEATEDLY PUNCHED AND KICKED HIS PARTNER DURING A DRINK-FUELLED ONSLAUGHT OF VIOLENCE HAS BEEN JAILED

At Oxford Crown Court, Daniel Huntley, aged 32 from Bucknell Road, Bicester, was sentenced after violence resumed despite previous bail conditions.

Having been released after being charged with two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, Huntley’s behaviour had been exacerbated by furlough and increased drinking.

The court heard that Huntley and his former partner, with whom he had a five-month relationship, experienced a series of violent episodes.

The first altercation occurred on August 15 at the woman’s home in Bicester.

Both had been drinking that day, and an argument turned violent, with Huntley kicking the woman about five times while she was on the floor and punching her in the face.

She fled the scene, crying for help, which a neighbour later heard.

Despite being released on bail with a strict order not to contact her, Huntley met her again on September 13 at his residence.

That night, while intoxicated, Huntley became upset over an unrelated matter, and when the woman tried to soothe him, he erupted into violence once more, punching her repeatedly before she escaped.

During police interviews, Huntley blamed his victim for the incident, stating it was her fault.

Defence counsel Gordana Turudija-Austin stated Huntley had worked all his life as a scaffolder and that the furlough period following COVID lockdowns contributed to his frustration and increased drinking.

She also highlighted that both individuals had been heavily intoxicated during both incidents.

The judge, Recorder Peter Guest, sentenced Huntley to a total of 40 weeks in custody 30 weeks for the first assault and 10 weeks for the second, to be served consecutively and ordered him to pay a surcharge to the victim.
