2014: MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDERING BOLTON WORLD WAR TWO VETERAN
A jury found Daniel Crompton guilty of the murder of 87-year-old Frank Worsley during a burglary.
On the early morning of August 3 last year, Crompton broke into Worsley's residence on Longfield Road, Daubhill.
Inside, he confronted Worsley, who was asleep, and attacked him by punching him multiple times when Worsley refused to hand over money.
Worsley succumbed to his injuries and passed away at Royal Bolton Hospital on August 20, nearly three weeks after the assault.
Crompton, who has a criminal record with 42 prior offences from the age of 14—including burglaries and an attempted street robbery—was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years before he may be eligible for parole.
In addition to the murder conviction, the court also imposed sentences for two burglaries, which will run concurrently with his life sentence.
