A man from Bedford who inflicted "appalling and cowardly" physical abuse on his partner has been sentenced to 32 months in prison.Daniel Brown, aged 29, of Parish Close, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm in September 2010.
The case was heard at Luton Crown Court, where it was revealed that Brown had a history of assaulting the same woman and a previous partner.
Judge Michael Kay QC criticized him, stating: "You have a propensity to be violent towards women you are in a relationship with." The judge emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable, describing the violence as "appalling and cowardly."Prosecutor Claudette Elliott detailed the assaults: on September 10, Brown repeatedly punched his victim's chest and ribs, pulled her hair, and on that same day, he threatened to kill her and made threatening remarks about her mother and brother.
Later that day, he punched her in the face, causing bleeding from her nose, with the victim describing it as "torture" and noting she was "black and blue all over." Brown refused to allow her to seek medical attention.
On September 22, he pulled her hair again, dragged her to the ground, and punched her repeatedly in her thigh.
During the hearing, Brown's defense lawyer, Robert Evans, stated that his client is trying to change, acknowledging that the relationship has ended and expressing a desire to improve himself through education while in custody.
