BOLTON MAN DAMIEN WILLIAMS ESCAPES JAIL AFTER ONLINE CHILD GROOMING SCANDAL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Bolton, Damien Williams, an unemployed man, appeared before Bolton Crown Court to face serious allegations of online child grooming. The court proceedings revealed that Williams had engaged in disturbing conversations with what he believed were underage children through various online profiles.
According to court records, Williams had contacted four different profiles, claiming to be children aged 13 and 14.
Specifically, he reached out to two profiles claiming to be 13-year-olds and two claiming to be 14-year-olds.
The conversations involved Williams making sexually explicit remarks and encouraging the minors to keep their interactions secret, which is a common tactic used by predators to avoid detection.
What made this case particularly alarming was that the children Williams believed he was communicating with did not exist.
These profiles were actually operated by members of the online child protection team known as ‘Totnes Justice,’ who had set up the profiles to catch potential predators in the act.
This sting operation was instrumental in exposing Williams’s intentions.
Williams’s criminal history includes an earlier arrest for grooming, after which he was released on bail.
However, his predatory behavior did not cease.
A few months later, he was caught again in a separate grooming attempt by the ‘North West Predator Hunters,’ a volunteer group dedicated to combating online child exploitation.
During the court hearing, the judge sentenced Williams to a community order for three years, which includes a Sex Offenders Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Additionally, Williams is required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years.
Despite the severity of the charges, Williams was not sentenced to prison, a decision that has sparked debate among community members and child protection advocates about the adequacy of such penalties in cases involving online grooming and exploitation.
