DAMIAN KOVAC, BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER, JAILED FOR ABUSING GIRL IN BRADFORD
In August 2020, a disturbing case unfolded in Bradford involving Damien Kovac, a Slovakian national residing in the city, who was convicted of heinous sexual offenses against a young girl. The incident drew significant attention from local authorities and the community, highlighting the ongoing issues of child safety and the presence of foreign nationals involved in criminal activities.
Damien Kovac, aged 21 and living in the Little Horton area of Bradford, pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.
The court was informed that the number of abuse incidents committed by Kovac was in the double digits, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
The details of the case revealed a disturbing breach of trust and innocence, with the young victim suffering emotional and psychological scars that would likely persist for years to come.
During the sentencing at Bradford Crown Court, Judge Richard Mansell QC sentenced Kovac to six years and nine months in prison.
The judge expressed his disapproval of Kovac’s attitude, noting that while the offender displayed a significant amount of self-pity, he showed little to no genuine remorse for his actions.
This lack of remorse was a point of concern for the court, emphasizing the severity of the crime and the need for strict punishment.
Representing Kovac, his barrister Jayne Beckett explained that her client was a Slovakian national who worked as a production operative and had limited understanding of English.
She also highlighted that Kovac had suffered personal losses, including the loss of his family and stability, as a consequence of his offending behavior.
Despite these explanations, the court made it clear that the impact on the victim was profound and irreversible.
Judge Mansell addressed the court, stating, “You robbed this innocent teenage girl of her youth and her virginity.” He emphasized that the young girl would carry the emotional and physical scars of the abuse for the rest of her life, whereas Kovac had shown little insight or remorse for his actions.
The judge ordered that Kovac must sign the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Furthermore, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed without any time limit, restricting Kovac’s behavior and contact with minors to prevent any future offenses.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for robust legal measures to protect vulnerable members of society from predatory individuals like Damien Kovac.
