DAMIEN GROVE ARRESTED IN BLACKPOOL FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND VOYEURISM AT THORPE PARK
In a significant crackdown on online child exploitation, authorities have apprehended Damian Grove, a 46-year-old man from Central Drive, Blackpool, following a series of disturbing offenses involving online grooming and voyeurism. The arrest took place at Thorpe Park in Chertsey on March 16th, 2013, after a vigilant mother noticed a suspicious photograph on Facebook showing her son at the theme park with Grove, whom she did not know.
Her quick action and concern prompted Surrey Police officers to track down Grove while he was still within the park premises.
During the arrest, officers seized Grove’s vehicle, along with a mobile phone and a laptop, which were subsequently examined.
The digital investigation uncovered extensive evidence of Grove’s online offending behavior, revealing that he had been using the chat application Skype to communicate with young boys as young as 11, pretending to be a teenage girl.
Through these conversations, Grove incited the boys to engage in sexual activities, which he recorded using readily available software and shared with other online users.
The investigation also revealed that Grove conspired with others online, discussing methods to target children and sharing advice on software tools to facilitate their exploitation.
Despite his arrest, Grove continued to maintain contact with one of his victims online, which further underscored the ongoing nature of his offending.
Authorities uncovered over 350 recordings involving young boys, most of which were related to the use of the recording software.
Although only a small number of these recordings contained sufficient information to identify the victims, the evidence confirmed contact with at least ten minors.
Most victims appeared to have been recorded on one or two occasions, indicating a pattern of repeated abuse.
In addition to his online offenses, Grove was also convicted of a voyeurism incident investigated by Lancashire Police.
The case involved Grove secretly filming a 13-year-old boy in a toilet cubicle at a swimming pool on November 23rd, 2013.
The victim, from Lancashire, recounted his shock and embarrassment upon discovering the footage, emphasizing how such incidents have heightened his awareness of online safety.
His mother expressed her distress and relief, noting that she had been unaware of the dangers and had not implemented sufficient parental controls.
She praised the mother who initially reported Grove’s activities, acknowledging that her intervention prevented further harm.
Another case involved a mother from Liverpool whose son had been targeted by Grove.
She described her vigilance in monitoring her children’s online activity and her initial belief that her son’s online interactions were harmless.
However, her son confided in her about conversations with a girl on the internet who threatened to blackmail him with videos.
This incident prompted the family to increase security measures on their devices.
The mother expressed gratitude to the mother who had spotted the Facebook photos, recognizing her quick thinking as instrumental in uncovering Grove’s activities.
She reflected on how such incidents can devastate families and emphasized the importance of awareness and vigilance.
Further testimony came from a mother in Lancashire, who shared her initial shock upon learning of her son’s involvement.
She expressed her fears about what could have happened if her son had met Grove in person, highlighting her concern for children’s safety and the need for stricter measures to protect young people from predators.
Her account underscored the devastating impact such cases have on families and the importance of community awareness in preventing similar crimes.
