DREGHORN MAN JAILED FOR POSSESSION OF INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A Dreghorn man found with 'child sex abuse images' has been sentenced.
Craig Smith had more than 50 photos on his smartphone and tablet when police conducted a search warrant on August 24, 2023.
He previously admitted to possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on January 14.
The court was informed that over a two-and-a-half-year period, from early 2021 until August 2023, Smith kept this material at his home and elsewhere.
A total of 57 unique files were recovered from his devices—25 accessible and 32 inaccessible—with 30 videos ranging from three seconds to over two minutes, and the remaining 27 files images.
The images and videos were categorized as 14 category A, 11 category B, and 32 category C, which involve different levels of sexual content.
Ultimately, Smith was sentenced on March 21 and placed on a community payback order for three years, with supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work within nine months.
He was also required to register as a sex offender for three years, complete the Scottish Government's Moving Forward Making Changes programme, and be restricted from using any technological devices capable of accessing the internet without supervision.
Furthermore, he is prohibited from any unsupervised contact with children under 16, except those unavoidable in daily life.
