BLACKPOOL CHILD RAPIST CRAIG KNIGHT SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR VILE ABUSE AND VIOLENCE
In a case that has shocked the community of Blackpool, Craig Knight, a 31-year-old sex offender, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving a young girl. The offences span several years and include some of the most serious forms of sexual abuse and violent conduct.
Knight's criminal activities came to light after authorities in Lancashire responded to concerns about his welfare at an address in Blackpool on June 7, 2017.
Officers from Lancashire Constabulary arrived at the scene and quickly became suspicious of the connection between Knight and a 16-year-old girl who was present.
The girl later disclosed to police that she had been subjected to sexual abuse by Knight over a prolonged period, starting when she was just 12 years old.
It was revealed that Knight had traveled from Surrey to Lancashire specifically to carry out his abusive acts.
Following his arrest, Knight was taken into custody at HMP Preston.
Despite being on bail, he continued to target his young victim, committing additional crimes against her and a male acquaintance of hers.
On June 9, 2017, Knight escalated his harassment by vandalizing the male's vehicle, filling the exhaust with expanding foam and scratching the car's paintwork.
The following day, he returned to the scene armed with a gas-powered pistol, a bottle of petrol, flame-proof gloves, and a knife.
Fortunately, his plans to cause serious harm were thwarted when he was intercepted by the victim’s friend and her father before he could carry out any violence.
Knight's trial at Preston Crown Court resulted in a series of convictions.
He was found guilty of five counts of raping a child under 13, three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, two counts of affray, witness intimidation, possession of a knife, possession of a firearm with intent to threaten violence, and two counts of theft.
Prior to the trial, he pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
The court heard evidence of his dangerous and predatory behavior, which led to a comprehensive sentencing decision.
Judge Sara Dodd described Knight as a dangerous offender and imposed an extended sentence for the protection of the public.
The sentence includes 17 years in prison for the sexual offences committed against the young girl, along with an additional four-year extended license period.
For the violent offences, Knight received a four-year sentence, with an extra year on license, to run consecutively.
Furthermore, the court imposed a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and mandated that Knight be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further harm.
This case underscores the severity of Knight’s crimes and the justice served in response to his actions, highlighting the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from predatory offenders in communities like Blackpool.
