AYR MAN CRAIG DUNLOP SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES IN AYR

In March 2017, Craig Dunlop, a resident of Walker Road in Ayr, was found to be in possession of indecent images depicting children. The case came to light when authorities uncovered evidence that Dunlop had stored these disturbing images on his personal computer. The investigation revealed that the images were stored at his Ayr residence between June 1, 2016, and July 4, 2016, raising serious concerns about his involvement in child exploitation material.

Craig Dunlop, aged 33 at the time, appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court to face charges related to the possession of pseudo-photographs of children. The court proceedings highlighted the gravity of the offense, which involved the explicit and illegal storage of such images, a matter that deeply shocked the community and law enforcement officials alike.

During the hearing, Dunlop’s defense solicitor, Tony Currie, addressed the court on his client’s behalf. He emphasized that Dunlop had been forthcoming and honest about his condition, acknowledging that he had become increasingly isolated over the years. Currie requested that the court consider a community-based sentence rather than immediate imprisonment, citing a report that supported the possibility of a community payback order. He stated, “The information provided to me in regards to the charge is disgusting and extreme, which I am sure you will appreciate.” The sheriff noted that Dunlop had been truthful during police interviews and had cooperated fully when authorities executed a warrant at his Ayr home. Recognizing the importance of rehabilitation, Sheriff Leslie decided to impose a community payback order instead of a custodial sentence, emphasizing the need for Dunlop to confront and manage the underlying problems that led to his offending.

As part of the court’s order, Dunlop was to be placed under supervision for a period of three years. He was also mandated to complete 180 hours of unpaid work within six months and to participate in a program aimed at promoting positive change and addressing his behavior. Additionally, the court ordered that Dunlop reside at an address approved by his supervisor, who would monitor his compliance and access to the internet to prevent further offenses.
