A distressing incident unfolded in Irvine involving a woman who was targeted by a man named Craig Denim, leading to a series of alarming events along the A9 trunk road. The woman, who is in her mid-20s, was followed by Denim, a 22-year-old telecoms engineer, in what authorities have described as a predatory and threatening act.

According to court proceedings, Denim engaged in behavior that was both intimidating and abusive. He initially approached the woman under false pretenses, making her believe that her vehicle was experiencing mechanical issues. This ruse prompted her to pull over, at which point Denim approached her vehicle. During this encounter, Denim made a disturbing comment, telling her, "I pulled you over because you're tidy,” which was perceived as an unsettling attempt at flirtation or manipulation.

As the situation escalated, Denim then demanded a kiss from the woman, asking, "Can I give you a snog?" This demand added to the distress she was experiencing. In an effort to defuse the situation, the woman offered her phone number, hoping to persuade Denim to leave her alone. Despite her attempt to de-escalate, Denim forcefully pulled open her car door. Fortunately, the woman managed to push him out of her vehicle and quickly drove away from the scene.

However, Denim did not cease his pursuit. He continued to follow her vehicle closely, tailgating her as she attempted to escape. The situation remained tense until police officers intervened, stopping Denim and arresting him at the scene. During police interviews, Denim admitted to behaving in a threatening manner but chose not to comment further on the incident.

In court, Denim was sentenced to two years of social work supervision and was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service. The court recognized the vulnerability of the victim and emphasized the frightening nature of Denim’s actions. His legal representatives argued that the incident was also distressing for Denim, describing it as a frightening experience for him as well. Nonetheless, the court found Denim guilty of threatening behavior and of placing the woman in fear.
