Steven Mays

Irvine Sexual Abuser

Mar 2016 Irvine rapist Steven Mays is handed an extended sentence after being jailed for rape just days earlier A DANGEROUS Irvine rapist jailed for nine years last week has had his prison term extended. Steven Mays was last week jailed at the High Court in Glasgow as a judge branded him a “serial offender”. The 40 year-old was convicted of 14 charges against eight different women including rape and domestic violence on terrified women he was dating at the time. A jury heard how some suffered at his hands while they were pregnant. Lord Matthews sentenced him to a total of eight years and eight months in prison. He said evidence at the trial exposed a “campaign of physical and sexual violence”. Despite being jailed for eight years and eight months, Mays still had an outstanding case at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. Mays, formerly of Whitewhisp Crescent, appeared from custody on Monday, March 21 after admitting breaching his community payback order. He previously dodged a prison sentence for sending lewd messages to a 12-year-old girl on Facebook in 2012, instead being given 150 hours of unpaid work and three years of supervision. The pervert breached the order after being arrested in relation to the more serious offences. Defence solicitor Colin McLaughlin told Sheriff Derek Livingston that his client had completed half of his unpaid work and was complying with supervision. Sheriff Livingston sentenced Mays to a further three months in prison. August 2014 Man Who Sent Youngster Obscene Messages Avoids Jail An Irvine man who sent depraved Facebook messages to a 12-year-old girl has avoided a jail sentence. Steven Mays, 37, asked the youngster if she knew the meaning of a lewd act then begged her to perform it on him. She blocked Mays then broke down and sobbed to her mother: “I’ve got something to tell you. It’s on my laptop.” Her mum logged on with a friend pretending to be her daughter and within minutes Mays typed a depraved comment. Mays denied the offence between August and October 2012 but was found guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. Sentence had been deferred. He was also convicted of domestic harassment against another woman and persistently sending her sexual text messages, while on bail, in Stewarton between April and November last year. Mays was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for three years, given supervision for the same period and ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.
