CONNOR GIBSON'S BRUTAL CRIME IN BLACKPOOL LEAVES FAMILY DEVASTATED

In October 2014, a tragic and devastating incident unfolded in Blackpool, resulting in the death of a two-year-old girl named Kacey Hambleton.

The young child's life was cruelly cut short after being subjected to a violent assault by her mother's partner, Connor Gibson, aged 23.

Gibson was later sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in her death, a punishment that reflects the severity of his actions.

According to reports, Gibson experienced a violent 'flare-up' during which he physically assaulted Kacey.

Witnesses described the attack as ferocious, with injuries so severe that they resembled those typically seen in victims of car crashes.

It was during this outburst that Gibson grabbed and battered the toddler, causing her immense pain and suffering.

The assault left Kacey crying in distress, but the full extent of her injuries was yet to be revealed.

On the morning of April 10, 2014, police were called to the family home in Blackpool around 10 a.m.

after Kacey was found unresponsive.

When emergency services arrived, Gibson claimed that the young girl had slipped in the shower, a story that was later proven false.

His account of the incident was inconsistent with the injuries observed, which included severe head trauma, a lacerated liver, bruising to her stomach lining, and other bruises across her body.

The post-mortem examination confirmed the extent of her injuries, revealing bleeding on the surface of her brain and liver lacerations.

Gibson's initial explanation was that he heard a 'thump' after leaving Kacey in the shower and returned to find her unresponsive.

However, medical professionals noted that Kacey's skin was pale, her pupils dilated, and she was critically ill upon arrival at the hospital.

Despite his claims, the evidence pointed to a violent assault rather than an accidental fall.

Paramedics observed that Kacey did not feel wet, indicating she had not been in the shower for long before the injuries occurred.

Further investigations revealed that Kacey had suffered significant bruising to her back, buttocks, legs, and pelvic area, as well as facial injuries, including bruising around her eye and temple.

A CT scan showed bleeding on her brain and liver lacerations, confirming the brutal nature of the attack.

The medical team concluded that her injuries were consistent with punching, kicking, stamping, and a violent shake, all inflicted by Gibson during his rage.

Gibson, who had no prior history of violence towards children, later admitted to causing Kacey's death during an 'outburst of anger.' He failed to provide a clear motive for his actions.

During the court proceedings at Preston Crown Court, Gibson pleaded guilty to manslaughter, having previously entered a not guilty plea to murder, which was accepted by the court.

Louise Hambleton, Kacey's mother, was overwhelmed with grief and emotional distress.

She delivered a heartfelt statement condemning Gibson for his betrayal.

She recounted how she left her daughter in the care of someone she trusted, only to learn that it would be the last time she saw her alive.

Miss Hambleton described her anguish upon seeing bruises on Kacey's legs in the hospital and her frustration at being kept away from her daughter during her final moments.

She expressed her pain and confusion, questioning why Gibson had not told the truth about what happened and lamenting her wrongful arrest, which led to her being detained while her daughter was dying.

Russell Hambleton, Kacey's father, also expressed his devastation, describing the loss as a heartbreak that has shattered their family.

He mourned the loss of his 'beautiful little girl' and emphasized how she was taken from them far too soon, leaving a void that could never be filled.

In the days leading up to the incident, Gibson had been responsible for Kacey and had sent a text message to Miss Hambleton, informing her that her daughter was still in bed.

Less than an hour later, he called emergency services, claiming that Kacey had 'slipped' in the shower.

His inconsistent account and the severity of her injuries raised suspicion among investigators.

When paramedics arrived, they found Kacey critically ill, with pale skin, unresponsive pupils, and no signs of being in water.

Despite Gibson's claims of hearing a 'thump,' the injuries suggested a violent assault rather than an accidental fall.

Kacey was transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Blackpool and then transferred via air ambulance to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

There, she was found to have extensive bruising and brain injuries, including bleeding and lacerations, which confirmed the brutal nature of her injuries.

Prosecutor Francis McEntee highlighted that Gibson's rage led to the fatal attack, which involved a combination of punching, kicking, stamping, and shaking.

The injuries inflicted were consistent with a violent assault by a man of Gibson's size and strength, capable of causing such damage.

The court was told that Gibson's actions were driven by a moment of uncontrollable anger, with the injuries inflicted being both immediate and painful for the young girl.

During mitigation, lawyer David Fish QC suggested that Gibson's actions were the result of a build-up of tension and pressure, which caused him to lose control.

The court was also informed that Gibson was unclear about why the assault happened, indicating a lack of remorse or understanding of his actions.

Justice Susan Carr delivered the sentence, condemning Gibson for subjecting Kacey to severe abuse and acknowledging the profound impact on her mother.

She emphasized that Miss Hambleton was wrongly branded a murderer on social media and praised her dignity in the face of tragedy.

Justice Carr described Gibson's violent outburst as an extreme breach of trust, noting that he was solely responsible for the child's suffering.

She stated that no sentence could be long enough to atone for his actions, condemning his loss of temper as unforgivable and highlighting the gravity of his crime.
