A domestic abuser went back to attacking his former partner within days of being released early from prison for a previous assault on her.Conner Brooke was incarcerated last August for 16 months for assaulting the woman. However, he was released on licence by February and almost immediately resumed violence towards the victim.
The 25-year-old, of Portland Street, Gateshead, is now back behind bars after pleading guilty to three additional assaults on her.
In a victim impact statement, the woman expressed her ongoing fear of him finding her and returning, stating: "I was constantly being assaulted.
I feel his behaviour has become worse since being in prison." The court at Newcastle Crown Court learned that the woman had been in a relationship with Brooke since May of the previous year.
After his release from his previous incarceration for assaulting her, they had rekindled their relationship, but within days, his violent outbursts resumed.
The victim described multiple incidents, including an episode where he threw her and her belongings out of his home after grabbing her face and pushing her around, accusing her of infidelity.
Over the following weeks, he assaulted her on several occasions, leaving her with a black eye and bruises after pushing her at a Metro station and hitting her face against a board.
In March, he was found going through her phone, made accusations of unfaithfulness, and assaulted her by slapping and pushing her against a wall, resulting in bruising to her arms and legs.Brooke, who has 22 prior convictions for violence, carrying weapons, and exposure, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of assault by beating, and criminal damage to a window.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
The judge, Recorder Mark McKone KC, expressed grave concern about his relationship status, stating, "The court was gravely concerned to read you were in a new relationship but I'm told that's over." The court also noted that Brooke had previously used Spice, a synthetic drug, but is now drug-free.
As a result of being recalled on his earlier sentence, the time served in custody will not count towards his current sentence.
