COLIN WILD FROM SOUTHPORT SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT MERSEY RAIL STATION
In a case that has shocked the local community, Colin Wild, a 29-year-old station supervisor working at a Mersey Rail station in Southport, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl.The incident occurred in April of the previous year, within the confines of the station's office, and has since garnered significant attention from both the public and legal authorities.
According to the prosecution, Pamela Badley, the incident took place at Southport station, where Wild was known to the young girl.
The girl, who was familiar with Wild and used to engage in casual conversations with him at the station, was lured into the station office by Wild.
Once inside, he took measures to isolate her by placing a chair against the door, which facilitated the sexual activity that ensued.
The girl later confided in an adult about the incident, leading to Wild's arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, Wild denied the charge of raping the girl but admitted to indecently assaulting her.
The more serious charge of rape was dropped as part of the legal process.
The court heard that Wild was under considerable emotional strain at the time, which his defense argued contributed to his actions.
His defense lawyer, Deidre McGuire, stated that Wild, who resides on Kensington Road in Southport, was deeply ashamed of his conduct.
She explained that Wild believed the girl was approximately 16 years old, as she had told him she had recently left school.
In reality, she was just two weeks shy of her 16th birthday.
Judge Denis Clark sentenced Wild to nine months in prison.
Additionally, he ordered Wild to sign the Sex Offenders Register for a period of ten years, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense and the need for ongoing monitoring.
