COLIN MORGAN FROM CARDIGAN CAUGHT WITH EXTREME CHILD IMAGES AND ANIMAL PORNOGRAPHY
In April 2016, a serious case unfolded involving Colin Morgan, a resident of Cardigan, who faced grave allegations related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children and extreme adult pornography. The authorities uncovered disturbing evidence during a police raid that took place on December 18 of the previous year, revealing the extent of Morgan’s involvement in these illicit activities.According to court proceedings, Morgan, aged 52 and residing at Maes y Felin in Cardigan, openly acknowledged his participation in the creation and possession of such material. During the investigation, he admitted to eight separate offences of making indecent images of children, as well as possessing these images with the intent to share them. Additionally, Morgan confessed to two offences involving the possession of extreme pornography depicting adults engaged in sexual acts with animals, a category of material considered particularly heinous and illegal.
Prosecutor Craig Jones detailed the events leading to Morgan’s arrest, stating that police officers, armed with a search warrant, entered Morgan’s home and found a troubling collection of digital content. Morgan reportedly did not deny his involvement, telling officers at the scene, “There is no point in lying. It started with people sending me pictures.”
Further examination of Morgan’s computer revealed a disturbing cache of digital files. Authorities identified 22 images or videos involving children, some classified within the most serious categories of abuse. In addition, five videos depicting extreme adult pornography were recovered. The investigation also uncovered that Morgan had been communicating with other individuals who shared similar interests through the Skype messaging platform. Some of his messages included links to “secure” locations on the internet, which are often used to facilitate the sharing of illegal content without detection.
Judge Peter Heywood addressed Morgan directly during the sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes. He explained that the children depicted in the images and videos were real victims who had been exploited and abused by others, often for financial gain. The judge remarked that such offenses would have warranted an immediate prison sentence in previous years, reflecting the seriousness with which the court views these crimes.
However, due to legal constraints and the specifics of Morgan’s case, he was not sentenced to a lengthy prison term. Instead, Judge Heywood ordered Morgan to be placed under supervision for a period of three years. During this time, Morgan will be required to undergo one-on-one counseling sessions aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses. Furthermore, he was mandated to register as a sex offender with the police for the next five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and community safety.
