COLIN HALL, BIRMINGHAM RESIDENT, JAILED FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES
A pensioner from Birmingham, Colin Hall, aged 79, has been sentenced to prison for historic sexual offences involving a young boy.The abuse took place over four years in the 1980s.
The investigation was initiated after the survivor came forward in 2018 to the West Midlands Police's Rape and Sexual Violence Project, a service dedicated to supporting victims of sexual violence in Birmingham and Solihull.
Specially trained officers conducted an inquiry into the allegations.
West Midlands Police confirmed that Hall admitted to seven counts of indecent assault between 1984 and 1988 during an earlier hearing.
Hall was sentenced to 16 years at Birmingham Crown Court on April 2.
Following his conviction, detectives highlighted the importance of a video interview with the victim, which was crucial in securing Hall’s conviction.
The victim recounted that he first met Hall when he was young; Hall introduced himself by showing him his dogs, and they would go for walks together.
The victim explained that Hall began buying him gifts and alcohol, making him believe that Hall was a friend who treated him as an adult.
After approximately a year, Hall started engaging in sexual encounters with the victim, instructing him not to tell anyone to avoid getting into trouble.
These abuse incidents reportedly continued for around four years.
Detective Constable Donna Kenny commented on the case, saying, “Hall groomed a young boy and led him to believe they were friends, building up a strong rapport with him before manipulating him and subjecting him to several incidents of sexual abuse.”
