COLIN DUNCAN FROM EAST KILBRIDE SENTENCED FOR NEARLY 1000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of East Kilbride, Colin Duncan, a 49-year-old resident of Capelrig Drive in Calderwood, was convicted of possessing a significant collection of indecent images of children. The incident came to light after police investigations revealed that Duncan had stored nearly 1000 such images on his mobile device, including two videos depicting inappropriate content involving minors. The case was heard at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where prosecutors detailed the circumstances leading to Duncan’s arrest. It was revealed that officers initially encountered resistance when attempting to examine Duncan’s phone. He was notably reluctant to provide the passcode, prompting police to question him further. Duncan’s wife, who was present at the time, intervened and urged him to cooperate, saying, “if you had nothing to hide you would just tell them. Do you know how this makes you look?” Following her remark, Duncan eventually disclosed the passcode, allowing officers to access the device.
The investigation was initiated after authorities received information from the National Online Child Abuse Prevention organisation, which prompted a search warrant for Duncan’s residence. On December 20, officers attended his home, where they were granted entry by Duncan’s wife. Inside the house, Duncan was present along with two children, raising concerns about the potential risk to minors.
Forensic analysis of Duncan’s phone uncovered a disturbing collection of images—964 in total—many of which were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of indecency. The forensic report also identified two videos containing explicit content involving children. The police investigation confirmed the extent of Duncan’s possession of illegal material, which prompted his arrest and subsequent detention.
Following his arrest, Duncan was held in custody over the Christmas period before being granted bail. His case was adjourned until October 22, when Sheriff Shiona Waldron sentenced him to one year in prison. Additionally, Duncan was placed on licence for 15 months following his release and was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the potential risk posed to the community.
