WIRRAL MAN SENTENCED FOR BREAKING INTO HOME AND SEXUAL ASSAULT

AN INTRUDER who broke into a woman's home and sexually molested her in front of her daughter faces a lengthy jail sentence.

Colin Adams broke into the house in Wirral in the early hours of March 16 while the woman was in bed alongside her 21-year-old daughter. They had both fallen asleep while they watched television together but her daughter woke her after hearing footsteps coming up the stairs of their home. The bedroom door opened and Adams put the light on and she saw him standing in the doorway.

"He had a hood over his head but he was not hiding his face," she said."I knew it wasn't just a normal theft.

I shouted, whoever you are, take what you want and get out."The 47-year-old woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said that he did not speak but gestured at her.

She initially thought he had gun or a knife but then realised it was car keys."I did not know if there were more people downstairs.

I was absolutely terrified.

He wasn't trying to hide his face and that's what scared me."She told Liverpool Crown Court that he walked towards her and she kept her hand on her daughter who she made stay under the duvet.

"I did not want him to see her, she's beautiful.""He told me to take my top off.

I was confused and terrified.

He was calm but determined and I could not believe what was happening."The man then carried out a sexual assault.

During that, he wanted to check her daughter did not have a mobile phone under the duvet and she told her to put her hands out which she did.The she saw him getting into her daughter's Peugeot 206 parked outside their Moreton home and her daughter called the police.Meanwhile she went downstairs, grabbed a barbecue fork and went to the front door.

She stood in the doorway so he could see she was armed and he drove off.The court heard that swabs taken from Adams and the victim showed there was only one in a billion chance that it was not his DNA.The woman and her daughter also both independently picked him out on a video identity parade.Adams, 22, crashed the car nearby, writing it off, and was arrested.

He denied breaking into the house, molesting the woman or stealing the car keys, mobile phone and a packet of cigarettes.

He told the court he met a stranger who gave the cars keys so he drove off.Adams, of Lancaster Avenue, Wallasey, was remanded in custody to await sentence on November 3.

Judge David Boulton refused to continue his bail."I am not going to allow a man convicted of offences like this in these circumstances back into the community," the judge said.He ordered a pre-sentence report so his dangerousness can be considered and ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register.

"He won't be troubling the locality for some time to come," he told the jury. After the hearing the victim said: "It was the most horrific incident that has ever happened to me and I am just so relieved he has been found guilty."He's plainly dangerous and my daughter and I have been on pins awaiting the outcome.

When he came into my bedroom and put the light on I knew it wasn't just an ordinary burglary."He didn't care if he was identified and could easily have just stolen stuff from downstairs."I'm still having counselling and taking anti-depressants and have trouble sleeping.

My daughter has lost a stone in weight and is also to have counselling.

Many lives have been disrupted by what he did.

I hope that now he has been convicted I will be able to get on with my life."
