BRADFORD MAN CHRISTOPHER WILKINSON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND ARSON IN BRADFORD AND OAKENSHAW

In April 2013, a man from Bradford was sentenced to over four years in prison after being convicted of serious crimes involving a young girl and acts of arson.

Christopher Wilkinson, aged 20 and residing on Wyke Crescent in Wyke, Bradford, pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl in 2011.

The victim, described by prosecutors as a challenging and vulnerable child under social services supervision, was targeted by Wilkinson when he was 19 years old.

His actions have caused significant concern among authorities and the community alike.

Prosecutor Felicity Davies highlighted the vulnerability of the young girl, emphasizing that her family found her to be a 'handful,' which contributed to her susceptibility.

Wilkinson’s grooming and subsequent sexual abuse of the minor are considered grave offenses, especially given her age and the fact that children under 16 are legally incapable of consenting to sexual activities under any circumstances.

The case underscores the importance of protecting minors from exploitation and abuse.

Following Wilkinson’s conviction, Detective Chief Inspector Gail Lawrie of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, Operation Topaz, issued a statement condemning his actions.

She stated, “Wilkinson subjected this young child to depraved acts of abuse which will likely have a lasting impact on her health and well-being.

Children under 16 cannot consent to sexual activity under any circumstances, and we cannot tolerate or accept such behavior.” She further emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals within the community and praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward to assist in the investigation.

In addition to the sexual offenses, Wilkinson was also convicted of arson related to incidents in Bradford.

On May 10 of the previous year, he set fire to a caravan and an empty cottage located in Oakenshaw, Bradford.

These acts of arson caused approximately £25,000 worth of uninsured damage to the properties.

Wilkinson admitted to causing the fire, which posed a significant risk to property and safety.

Furthermore, he pleaded guilty to setting fire to a wheelie bin outside a hairdressing salon, resulting in £2,000 worth of damage.

For all these offenses, Wilkinson was sentenced to a total of four years and four months in a young offender institution.

The combined sentences reflect the severity of his crimes and the justice system’s stance on protecting the community from such dangerous behavior.
