Christopher Whiteman

Evesham Sexual Abuser

October 2006 Obscene texts sent to girl, 14 AN Evesham security guard who lived in “fantasy land” sent a 14-year-old schoolgirl obscene text messages by phone, a court was told this week. Christopher Whiteman asked the teenager to stand in her room and flash her breasts by a window. He also asked her to perform a sex act on herself and send him a photograph of it, said Nicolas Cartwright, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court. The texts went on for three months before the girl’s father found some of them copied down and 26-year-old Whiteman was arrested. No sexual acts ever took place, said Bernard O’Brien, defending. “We are dealing with fantasy land,” he added. Whiteman, of Anne Crescent, Evesham, pleaded guilty to eight specimen counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Judge Andrew Geddes gave him an 18-month community order which entailed supervision on a sex offenders’ programme. The defendant must also pay £500 court costs, sign the sex offenders’ register for five years and is banned from working with children indefinitely. The judge described the texts as quite obscene and said Whiteman should be thoroughly ashamed. The behaviour had harmed the girl and distressed her family, although she had been a willing participant, even kissing Whiteman. Whiteman met the high school pupil in September last year and she became infatuated with him, said Mr Cartwright. They met just three times and the only physical contact was a kiss on the cheek. He asked the girl to keep the texts secret and delete them afterwards. In one, Whiteman asked her what underwear she was wearing and in another invited her to have sex with him. At the time, he was separated from his wife and had an 18-year-old girlfriend. The girl was uncooperative in a police interview, said Mr Cartwright. Whiteman maintained he thought she was 16, although it was plain he knew her age. Mr O’Brien said the girl had responded to the defendant. Although he had the opportunity to take things further, he resisted it.
