CHRISTOPHER WEBSTER FROM IPSWICH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BEING CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF ILLEGAL CHILD IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Ipswich, Christopher Webster, a 52-year-old resident of Grebe Close, was found in possession of an alarming collection of indecent and prohibited images of children, along with extreme pornographic material. The incident, which came to light on October 5, 2018, involved Webster being caught with a vast array of illegal content, including thousands of images and numerous videos that ranged in severity from Category A to Category C, as well as prohibited and extreme material.
Specifically, Webster was found with 105 of the most serious kind of indecent images of children, classified as Category A, along with nine videos of the same grade.
His collection also included 104 images and two videos categorized as Category B, and 305 images plus 13 videos classified as Category C.
The total number of prohibited images of children in his possession was staggering, amounting to 6,027, accompanied by seven videos.
Additionally, authorities discovered 851 extreme pornographic images and 480 videos, further highlighting the disturbing nature of his collection.
The case was brought before Ipswich Crown Court, where Judge Rupert Overbury presided over the sentencing on April 30.
Webster pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing prohibited images, and another of possessing extreme pornographic images.
In his judgment, Judge Overbury sentenced Webster to 12 months in prison, but notably, this sentence was suspended for two years.
The court also mandated that Webster complete 200 hours of unpaid work and undertake 30 days of rehabilitation activities to address his behavior.
Prior to this, in November 2020, Webster, then aged 51, had already admitted to possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.
During that hearing at Ipswich Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to similar charges, including making indecent images and possessing prohibited and extreme material.
Judge David Goodin ordered an all options pre-sentence report and warned Webster that custody was a serious consideration given the gravity of his offenses.
At that time, Webster was released on unconditional bail and was scheduled for sentencing on January 18, but the case was ultimately resolved in April with the suspended sentence.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the judicial system to combat the distribution and possession of illegal content involving minors, and it highlights the serious consequences faced by those caught in possession of such material.
