SEX OFFENDER CHRISTOPHER SMITH FOUND DEAD IN WALSALL JAIL CELL, POLICE INVESTIGATE MURDER
In July 1995, authorities initiated a murder investigation following the death of a prisoner convicted of sex offences at Long Lartin Prison in Worcestershire. The deceased was identified as Christopher James Smith, aged 37, from Walsall in the West Midlands. He was serving a nine-year sentence at the time of his death.A police spokesperson confirmed that a post-mortem examination revealed Smith died from severe head injuries. The investigation into other findings from the autopsy was ongoing. Smith was discovered dead in his cell during lunchtime on Tuesday.
An incident room has been established at Redditch police station to handle the investigation. Authorities have not yet identified any murder weapon.
Meanwhile, the family of Norman Manning, another prisoner murdered at Long Lartin, staged a demonstration outside the Crown Prosecution Service offices in Droitwich, Worcestershire, yesterday. They expressed frustration, saying, "Despite a lengthy police inquiry, no-one has yet been charged with Norman Manning's killing."
