WALSALL MAN MATTHEW LEAKE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGER IN WOLVERHAMPTON
In a case that has shocked the local community, Matthew Leake, a 29-year-old resident of Walsall, was sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of serious sexual offenses committed against a teenage girl.The crimes, which took place in the Midlands, involved multiple allegations of underage sexual activity, including the heinous act of rape.
Leake appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court to face the charges, which included three counts of sexual offenses involving a minor under the age of 13.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, acknowledging his involvement in the disturbing incidents.
The court was informed that Leake's actions included the rape of a girl under 13 and two additional charges of sexual activity with a child, which were considered specimen charges to reflect the severity of his conduct.
During the sentencing, Judge Michael Challinor addressed Leake directly, noting that while it was accepted he did not use physical force on the victim, she was nonetheless threatened when she attempted to resist what was happening.
The judge emphasized that the victim's distress was evident, and her attempts to stop the assault were met with intimidation.
Judge Challinor described Leake as “immature and inadequate,” and remarked that the incident was more akin to a teenage crush rather than predatory paedophile activity.
Despite this characterization, the judge made it clear that the offenses were grave and warranted strict measures.
As part of his sentence, Leake was ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
Additionally, he was permanently barred from working with children in any capacity, a measure designed to protect the community from further harm.
Leake, who resides on Pleck Road in Walsall, was also told that he was not considered a dangerous offender by the court.
However, the seriousness of his crimes and the impact on the victim were underscored by the court’s decision to impose a significant custodial sentence, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the need for public safety.
