CHRISTOPHER PEARSON FROM DARLINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AND ONLINE TERROR IN THE TOWN

According to court proceedings, Pearson lured his young victim into a false sense of security by offering him the opportunity to play on his Xbox console.
During this period, he gained the child's trust by providing games and engaging in shared gaming sessions, which served as a grooming tool to manipulate and control the victim.
The court heard that Pearson's intent was to satisfy his deviant sexual needs through this young boy, whom he subjected to a series of sexual assaults.
What made the case particularly disturbing was Pearson's subsequent actions to intimidate and threaten his victim.
After the abuse was discovered, Pearson took to social media platforms to further harass and defame the young boy.
He created a fake profile in an attempt to intimidate the victim into silence, even going so far as to publish the child's home address online and label him a paedophile.
These actions were described by Judge Jonathan Carroll as 'abhorrent' and 'wicked,' emphasizing the malicious intent behind Pearson's online conduct.
Judge Carroll sentenced Pearson to a substantial term of 12 years and five months in prison, highlighting the severity of his crimes.
During the sentencing, the judge condemned Pearson's use of fake profiles to threaten and intimidate, stating, "You had them because you intended to use them to in effect intimidate, threaten and cajole, and try your damnedest to frighten your victim off.
You did it in the most wicked way." The judge also pointed out the danger posed by Pearson's actions in publicly naming the victim and revealing his address, which put not only the young boy but also his family at significant risk of harm.
The court recognized the public's strong abhorrence of such crimes and the potential for street justice to follow.
Prosecutor Shaun Dodds provided further insight into the impact of Pearson's actions, revealing that the victim's life had been profoundly affected.
In a victim impact statement, the young boy described how Pearson's exploitation had left him with deep trust issues and emotional scars.
The court was also informed that Pearson had a history of inappropriate contact with young boys, having received police cautions for similar social media contacts.
Additionally, police found two young boys from a care home in Pearson's house, raising further concerns about his predatory behavior.
Pearson pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexual assault, sexual activity without consent, sexual activity with a child, witness intimidation, and failing to comply with sexual offences notification orders.
His criminal record also includes cautions for contacting minors online, which underscored a pattern of concerning behavior.
