CHRISTOPHER LANDER SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ABUSE IN IPSWICH
In a case that has shocked the community of Ipswich, 28-year-old Christopher Lander has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses.The sentencing took place at Ipswich Crown Court, where Judge Rupert Overbury delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the grave danger Lander poses to the public, especially to children.
Judge Overbury described Lander as having an 'entrenched and disturbing interest' in sexually abusing females of various ages.
The judge expressed his firm belief that Lander's actions and tendencies represented a significant threat, warranting a substantial custodial sentence.
The court was told that Lander had a history of recording his abuse for perverted gratification, further highlighting the severity of his crimes.
At the time of the offenses, Lander was residing in Ipswich.
He had been in custody awaiting sentencing and admitted to a series of heinous crimes, including four counts of rape, four counts of assault by penetration, and three counts of inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child, making threats to kill, and the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.
The court heard disturbing details about Lander's conduct.
It was revealed that he had filmed himself raping and sexually assaulting a woman.
Furthermore, he had threatened a schoolgirl he had abused with a knife, warning her that he would kill her if she disclosed what had happened.
The authorities also found that Lander possessed over 700 indecent images of children, of which he had distributed 26, demonstrating a pattern of exploitation and abuse.
Neil Saunders, representing Lander, acknowledged the gravity of the crimes, stating, 'There is little I can say by way of mitigation because there isn’t any.' He added that Lander had expressed feelings of shame and guilt for his actions and was fully aware of the lengthy imprisonment he faced.
Judge Overbury sentenced Lander to 12 years in prison, with an extended license period of three years.
He also ordered Lander to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
The judge clarified that Lander would need to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before his case could be considered for parole, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed his offenses.
