HOUGHTON-LE-SPRING MAN JAILED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENCES
Online predator Christopher Harrison has been sentenced to prison for multiple sex crimes involving children.Harrison, a 42-year-old married man from Pinewood Street, Fencehouses, engaged in illegal online communications with individuals he believed to be underage girls.
He repeatedly sent sexual images and videos to a decoy profile created by police, pretending to be a 13-year-old girl named Chloe on social media platforms including Snapchat.
Despite being told about her age, he sent explicit videos of himself, including a naked video and others masturbating, and asked for images of her.
He also inquired if she had a bikini photo and sent additional videos of sexual acts.
After being arrested and bailed for that offense, while still wanted on a court warrant, he contacted another undercover profile on Kik portraying a 14-year-old girl, discussing meeting after school and buying condoms.
He also talked about attending her house, even when she indicated her mother was working overtime.
Harrison pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity, arranging or facilitating child sex offences, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, and sending an image to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation.
The court sentenced him to 42 months in prison and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register and be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
The judge emphasized the danger, stating: "They could easily have been real children.
These are children who need protecting from people who are prepared to abuse them sexually for their own satisfaction and from themselves." The defendant's lawyer highlighted his remorse and difficulty explaining his behavior, noting that Harrison has been in a long-term relationship with his wife, who suffers from poor health, including cystic fibrosis.
The article underscores the seriousness of online grooming and child exploitation, with a focus on Harrison's offending and the legal consequences imposed.
