HOUGHTON-LE-SPRING PAEDOPHILE GOT GIRL PREGNANT
A man who had sex with a drunk girl and got her pregnant has been jailed for five years.Bradley Grayson repeatedly abused the girl who feared he would “kick off” if she tried to tell him to stop, Durham Crown Court heard, and the 27-year-old got her pregnant.
She went on to have his child, but initially hid that Grayson was the dad.
He was jailed for five years on Thursday (November 27) with a judge telling him: “You knew exactly what you were doing.” Prosecutor Paul Abrahams said Grayson had been drinking with the teenager when he started kissing her before having sex with her.
He said: “In her interview, she said she had been very drunk.” Mr Abrahams said she felt she couldn’t say stop and worried he would “kick off”.
She fell pregnant and gave birth when she named two other men as the father, and even hid Grayson’s identity from her own mum.
She eventually told her family and police that he was the dad, and Grayson was arrested.
In a statement read by the prosecutor his victim said: “At the time I was young and vulnerable.
“He groomed me to get what he wanted.
I was oblivious to what was going on.
“This is a man old enough to understand the difference between right and wrong.
“I think it is disgraceful what he has done.
“I wonder how in the future I will explain to my [child] who their father is.” Grayson, of Longlands Drive in Houghton-le-Spring, but formerly of Murton, County Durham, pleaded guilty to six charges of sexual activity with a child.
In mitigation, Andrew Walker said: “He is pained and has been for many years now as to the effect of this behaviour”.
Mr Walker added Grayson had made attempts to end his own life and was not sleeping or eating.
The court heard he had one previous conviction from 2014 for an unrelated matter.
Jailing Grayson for five years, Judge Richard Clews told him: “You knew exactly what you were doing at all times.
You knew it was wrong, but I assume you thought that you would get away with it and she wouldn’t say anything.
“Who knows, perhaps if she hadn’t become pregnant, perhaps that would have been the case.
“What you have done has changed the entire course of her life.
“She was, as you knew, [only a teenager] and had whatever vulnerabilities.” He will also have to register as a sex offender for life, and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
