DARLINGTON MAN SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR KNIFE ATTACK IN EX-PARTNER'S HOME
A man named Christopher Fothergill was sentenced to six years in prison following a violent knife attack at his former partner's residence.
The incident occurred in Darlington in August, during which Fothergill stabbed a man, leaving him in need of hospital treatment.
The attack took place after Fothergill confronted the victim and his ex-partner inside a property in the Skerne Park area around 6:15am on Sunday, August 5.
Fothergill fled the scene and evaded capture for several days, prompting a significant manhunt.
Fothergill, aged 34 and of Hargreave Terrace, pleaded guilty to charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, burglary, and breaching a restraining order at Teesside Crown Court.
Despite the victim surviving and recovering, detectives acknowledged that his injuries were initially considered life-threatening.
Detective chief inspector Caroline Davies emphasized the unprovoked nature of the attack, stating that Fothergill entered his ex-partner's home and carried out a horrendous assault on his defenseless victim, then attempted to avoid arrest.
The court's sentencing reflected the seriousness of the offense, and authorities condemned such violent behavior.
