BRADFORD CHILD RAPIST CHRISTOPHER FLOOD SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN BRADFORD
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Bradford, Christopher Flood has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The court heard how Flood, 38, of Idle Road, Idle, Bradford, groomed and sexually abused a vulnerable 13-year-old girl over a period of two years, inflicting severe psychological trauma that would haunt her for years to come.
Flood’s criminal actions came to light after the girl, who was shy, quiet, and academically inclined, was subjected to grooming tactics that included the use of alcohol and cigarettes.
The abuse began in 1999 when Flood, then intoxicated after a party, sexually assaulted her on a sofa.
This initial act of depravity was followed by further assaults, including rape, which occurred a few months later.
The court was told that Flood’s actions not only violated her physically but also exposed her to risks of infection and unwanted pregnancy, adding to the trauma she endured.
Prosecutor Philip Standfast described the victim’s suffering, revealing that she experienced extreme psychological harm.
The girl, overwhelmed by her ordeal, attempted to take her own life at the age of 14 by overdosing on tablets.
She left a note for her parents before the attempt, which, fortunately, was unsuccessful.
The court heard that Flood’s manipulation and threats kept her silent, allowing him to continue his abuse unchecked for two years.
Judge Jonathan Rose condemned Flood’s actions as utterly depraved.
He recounted how Flood falsely claimed to police that the girl had flirted with him, attempting to justify his conduct.
The judge emphasized that Flood’s grooming and abuse had robbed the girl of her childhood, leaving her feeling like “a dirty piece of nothing.” The judge also highlighted the profound impact on her mental health, noting that she was too frightened to confide in anyone at the time.
“This was an act of depravity,” Judge Rose stated.
“She was only 13 years old, a virgin, and completely innocent.
You exposed her to the risk of infection and unwanted pregnancy.
She was terrified and felt powerless to tell anyone.” Despite her suffering, the girl’s silence allowed Flood to continue his abuse, which he did for two more years.
The judge pointed out that even now, she carries a sense of guilt, although she was entirely innocent.
Flood’s guilty pleas to indecent assault and multiple rapes spared her the ordeal of reliving her trauma in court, but the scars remain.
In sentencing, Judge Rose emphasized the severity of Flood’s crimes, which warranted a lengthy prison term.
Flood was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
His legal representative, Stephen Wood, acknowledged that Flood’s guilty pleas had prevented the victim from having to testify publicly and noted that Flood had since internalized his twisted motivations, claiming he had not committed similar offences since.
Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Suzanne Hall of the Bradford District Safeguarding Unit expressed her support for the victim and the community.
“Flood repeatedly abused his victim when she was a young teenager, and the lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of these offences,” she said.
“We thank the victim for coming forward, which we hope will help her find some closure.
We also encourage other victims of sexual abuse to contact West Yorkshire Police, where our specially trained officers will investigate with sensitivity and determination, aiming to secure justice for all victims.”
