CHRISTOPHER DAVIES SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN BRADFORD
A man from Bradford, Christopher Davies, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of sexual assault and rape committed in the city.Davies, aged 49, was convicted at Bradford Crown Court on January 14, 2021, following a detailed five-day trial.
This conviction came after an earlier trial held in May 2021 ended without a verdict, as the jurors struggled to reach a decision.
The disturbing incident took place on January 6, 2019, when Davies invited a woman to his residence located on Thornton Drive in Bradford.
Allegedly, Davies lured the woman into his home under the pretenses of companionship or hospitality.
Once inside, he committed the assault, raping her during the visit.
The woman, facing a traumatic experience, managed to escape the property on foot when Davies briefly left to go into the bathroom.
Her immediate response was to report the assault to the police, which led to Davies's arrest and subsequent charges of rape and sexual assault.
After his conviction, Davies was remanded into custody pending sentencing.
On February 4, 2022, at Bradford Crown Court, he was sentenced to a total of over eight years in prison—seven years and three months for the rape charge and an additional one year and nine months for sexual assault.
These sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve the longer term.
Furthermore, Davies was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring persistent monitoring of his activities.
Detective Emma Lindley, who led the investigation on behalf of West Yorkshire Police, expressed her commendation for the victim’s bravery.
She stated, “I would like to praise the victim for coming forward and reporting Davies’s actions.
It’s not been easy, especially going through a re-trial, but she has shown incredible courage throughout.
I’d like to thank her for her bravery.
I hope this sentencing provides her with some comfort and helps bring closure as she moves forward with her life.” The police emphasized their commitment to dealing seriously with all allegations of sexual misconduct.
Detective Lindley concluded by reaffirming that law enforcement authorities will continue to strive for justice and support victims of sexual assault, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions in Bradford and beyond.
