CHRISTOPHER COOPER BANNED FROM BIRMINGHAM AND LEAMINGTON SENT TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING A TEENAGER
Christopher Cooper, aged 36 and residing on Portland Road in Birmingham, has been sentenced to prison following a series of serious breaches related to his previous convictions involving child sex offenses.Cooper, who was formerly based in Leamington before relocating to Birmingham, found himself back in legal trouble after engaging in inappropriate and illegal communications with a teenage girl, despite being under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
His arrest was carried out by officers from Warwickshire Police's Sex Offender Management Unit (SOMU) on the very day he was released from prison.
At the time, Cooper was serving time for violating the terms of his SHPO, which had been imposed following his earlier conviction for child sex offenses.
The order explicitly prohibited him from making contact with anyone he believed to be under the age of 16, a restriction he blatantly disregarded.
Investigations revealed that during his time in prison, detectives uncovered evidence indicating Cooper had exchanged sexually explicit messages with the teenage girl in 2022.
Despite his claims of being 18 years old, the victim had clearly stated early in their exchanges that she was only 14.
This discrepancy highlights the manipulative nature of Cooper’s actions and the serious breach of trust and legal boundaries.
Following these revelations, Warwick Crown Court sentenced Cooper last week to a total of three years and four months in prison.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of breaching his SHPO and one count of inciting a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity.
The court also imposed a six-year period of supervision on his release, known as a licence, during which any further violations could result in his return to incarceration.
Detective Constable Matt Collins from the Warwickshire Police SOMU emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, “The sentence reflects the danger Cooper poses to children.
It also demonstrates the power of the SHPOs in allowing us to monitor the behaviour of sex offenders and shows how seriously the courts treat offenders who breach them.” He further highlighted the importance of vigilance in the digital age, noting, “This case also shows the dangers of social media and how it is important for parents to be aware of what their child is doing online.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks posed by individuals like Cooper and the critical role of law enforcement and legal measures in protecting vulnerable minors from exploitation and harm.
