HALIFAX WOMAN CHLOE NAYLOR SENTENCED FOR STARVING HER DOG TO DEATH IN GLEDCLIFFE

Chloe Marie Naylor, born on June 21, 1998, and residing in Gledcliffe, Halifax HX3 6AA, has been convicted of a tragic case of animal cruelty that culminated in the death of her family’s pet dog. The incident has drawn significant attention from local authorities and animal welfare organizations, highlighting the devastating consequences of neglect and deliberate harm to animals.

According to court records and veterinary reports, Naylor’s nine-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, affectionately known as Buddy, was subjected to a prolonged period of starvation that ultimately led to his death. When Buddy finally succumbed, Naylor told veterinary professionals that the dog had choked on his own head after getting caught in a dog crate. However, investigations and expert testimony revealed a far more disturbing truth.

Veterinary professionals involved in the case expressed their professional opinion that Buddy’s emaciated condition could not have developed in just a week, as Naylor claimed. A veterinarian stated, “The owner claimed he had only been unwell for a week but in my professional opinion a dog does not become that emaciated in such a short period of time. It is much more likely that this was in fact a result of multiple weeks to months of not eating. I have no doubt this dog sadly suffered prior to his death due to starvation, I suspect this suffering was over the course of weeks to months.”

During a detailed interview with the RSPCA, Naylor admitted that she had been struggling to care for Buddy since the birth of her baby. She disclosed that the dog had been losing weight over a period of six months, which she attributed to her personal difficulties and the challenges of caring for her newborn. This acknowledgment further underscored the prolonged neglect that led to Buddy’s tragic demise.

Following the court hearing, RSPCA Inspector Adam Dickinson expressed his distress over the case. He stated, “The suffering that Buddy must have experienced is deeply distressing. It is the responsibility of the owners to ensure the wellbeing of their pets and protect them from harm. This has been a tragic reminder that if you fall on hard times, help will always be there should you reach out and ask for it.”

In terms of sentencing, Naylor received a 17-month jail term, which was suspended for one year. She was also ordered to complete ten days of rehabilitation, pay costs amounting to £200, and a surcharge of £154. Additionally, a deprivation order was issued for two cats she owned, and she was banned from keeping any animals for the rest of her life. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which animal cruelty cases are treated in Halifax and the importance of accountability for those who neglect or harm their pets.
