Sikander Malik

Halifax Sexual Abuser

August 2008 Sex pest gave police the slip A sex offender who tried to give monitoring officials the slip has been given a suspended sentence. Sikander Malik, of Cannon Street, King Cross, Halifax, was convicted of unlawful sex with a girl under 16 in 2006. He was ordered to sign the register, which requires offenders to notify police where they live at all times. But Malik, 24, gave a false address on two separate occasions. He admitted breaching the order at Calderdale Magistrates Court. Andy Wills, prosecuting, said Malik had moved four times since the order was made two years ago but on the last occasion he did not tell officials. And when police discovered he had relocated, Malik told them he was living at his gran’s address – even though she had not seen him since the family disowned him after his conviction. Mr Wills said: “He was placed on the register for five years and that means police must know where he lives at all times.” But Iftikhar Ahmed, for Malik, said there were no sinister motives. He said: “It is just a case of him not realising how serious this is and not telling police what’s going on.” Susan Sutcliffe, chairwoman of the magistrates bench, said: “This really is serious and you must obey every requirement on the order or face the consequences.” He was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, ordered to do 60 hours of unpaid work and placed on a six month supervision order. The sentence was reduced to take into account the fact Malik had been in prison for 28 days waiting for a report to be drawn up.
