CHETIN HUSSYIN AND ROBERT THOMPSON FROM LISKEARD AND MAIDA VALE SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN NORTH LONDON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of north London, a former youth football coach and social worker, Chetin Hussyin, aged 66, along with his then lodger Robert Thompson, aged 63, have been sentenced to a combined total of 19 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young boys spanning over a decade.

Hussyin, originally from Liskeard, Cornwall, was involved in grooming and abusing multiple victims during his time working as a football coach in Haringey, north London, between 1971 and 1973. During this period, he befriended two boys, aged 14 and 16, whom he exploited sexually at his residence in Hornsey. The abuse was carried out in the early 1970s, with Hussyin using his position as a coach to gain the trust of these young boys.

Following his stint as a football coach, Hussyin transitioned into a role as a youth worker in 1977, and later trained as a social worker. This career move provided him with access to even younger children, including a boy aged just eight or nine. The young victim was invited to Hussyin’s home, where he was subjected to sexual assault. At this time, Hussyin had moved to an address in Highbury, north London, where he shared his home with Robert Thompson, his lodger. The young boy was allowed to stay over at the property, as his parents trusted Hussyin due to his professional background.

The sexual abuse persisted, and by 1981, Hussyin and Thompson had relocated to Muswell Hill, also in north London. The youngest victim, who was 11 years old at that time, continued to be sexually assaulted by Hussyin, with Thompson also becoming involved in the abuse. The victims’ suffering only came to light after one of them bravely came forward in May 2016, prompting an immediate investigation by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command (CASO).

Subsequently, additional victims stepped forward, revealing the full extent of the abuse. The police investigation uncovered a pattern of predatory behavior spanning from 1971 to 1984, involving multiple victims and locations across north London. Hussyin and Thompson were arrested and brought to court to face justice for their crimes.

At Blackfriars Crown Court, Hussyin was convicted on multiple counts, including two counts of buggery, two counts of indecency with a child, and eight counts of indecent assault. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Thompson, found guilty of two counts of indecent assault, received a five-year sentence. The court heard that Hussyin’s actions had caused profound harm to the victims, and the sentences reflect the severity of his offenses.

Detectives involved in the case have expressed their belief that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. They have urged anyone with relevant information to contact the authorities, emphasizing the importance of providing support and justice for all those affected by these crimes. The case serves as a stark reminder of the long-lasting impact of abuse and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
