MAN SPARED JAIL AFTER KICKING 67-YEAR-OLD IN THE FACE WITH STEEL TOE-CAPPED BOOTS
A man who kicked a 67-year-old in the face with steel toe-capped boots has been spared jail.
Charrangit Singh Grewal, 51, of Burns Street, Radford pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following the incident which happened on Waverley Street, Nottingham, on January 18.
The attack knocked out the man's tooth.
When he was interviewed by police the next day, Grewal claimed that he attacked the victim after he’d made a comment about his appearance.
Witnesses to the assault said they saw Grewal punch the victim to the face and continue to attack him while he was on the floor.
He then kicked the victim in the face while he was still on the ground before he walked off.
Speaking after Grewal was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, February 4, Police Constable Rebekah Jackson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a brutal and sustained attack which could have easily resulted in more serious injuries.
"Nottinghamshire Police will not tolerate violent crime in our communities and we will do everything in our power to target violent offenders and bring them to justice." Grewal was handed a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, ordered to complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay a £140 victim surcharge.
