CHARLES WELLS FROM BEDFORD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGERS IN BEDFORD
In November 2019, a disturbing case involving a Bedford man named Charles Wells came to light, culminating in his conviction and sentencing for serious sexual offenses.Wells, aged 66 and residing on Linden Road in Bedford, was found guilty of multiple counts related to the sexual abuse of two teenage girls.
The court sentenced him to a three-year prison term after he was convicted of four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and four counts of sexual assault.
According to the court proceedings, Wells targeted a young girl when she was only 15 years old.
His inappropriate behavior included touching her body both beneath and over her clothing, as well as speaking to her in a sexually explicit manner.
The victim, who bravely came forward, recounted her ordeal and expressed the profound impact it had on her life.
She revealed that her sense of confidence was shattered, stating, “As a result of what he did, I no longer had the confidence to wear the same clothes as I used to.
I felt that if he had those thoughts about me then other people might have the same thoughts.” She further explained that her trust in others had been severely damaged, making it difficult for her to form new relationships.
“I used to be an open book and allow people into my life, but it now takes a long time for me to trust anyone new.
I shouldn’t be feeling like this.
In fact, I don’t involve myself in a lot of things that other girls my age are doing, such as going to parties and festivals, as I’m wary of what other people’s intentions are.
I just don’t want to put myself in any situation that could put me in danger.” The victim emphasized her desire to move forward, saying, “I know what happened to me and I just need to find a way of getting over it.
I find it better to look to the future rather than the past, and at the moment I want to just move forward and think positively.” In addition to the abuse of the young girl, Wells was also found to have been abusing her teenage sibling, with the misconduct reportedly beginning approximately four years prior to the current allegations.
When confronted with the accusations, Wells denied the allegations, dismissing them as “ludicrous” and maintaining his innocence regarding both teenagers.
The case highlights the serious nature of the offenses committed by Charles Wells and underscores the importance of victim bravery in seeking justice.
His conviction and subsequent imprisonment serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable minors from sexual exploitation and abuse in Bedford and beyond.
