CHARLES TURTON FROM TELFORD CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 10,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Charles Turton, a man previously residing in Telford, was found to possess an alarming collection of nearly 10,000 indecent images of children on his personal computer.

The authorities acted swiftly after Turton voluntarily handed over his device to the police, openly acknowledging the existence of illicit material without attempting to deny it.

The incident unfolded when police officers arrived at Turton’s former residence in Telford, where they seized a Toshiba hard drive for examination.

During the investigation, officers uncovered a disturbing cache of images stored on the device, which included a total of 9,752 indecent images of children.

These images were classified into different categories based on their severity, with 1,174 images falling into Category A—the most serious classification involving explicit and extreme content.

Additionally, the hard drive contained 2,246 images categorized as B, and 6,332 images classified as C, which are considered less severe but still highly inappropriate.

Prosecutor Nigel Booth, presenting the case at Shrewsbury Crown Court, detailed the findings, stating, “When police officers entered the home address, they seized a Toshiba hard drive.

Within that hard drive, they found the indecent still and moving images.” He further explained that Turton had admitted to the police that there was “no point denying it,” and he anticipated that such material would be discovered.

The police also found a disturbing collection of children’s clothing among the evidence, adding to the severity of the case.

Charles Turton, aged 45 and now residing in Aberystwyth, Wales, previously faced court on multiple charges.

He pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent photographs of children, as well as possessing a prohibited image of a child and an extreme pornographic image.

These offenses spanned from November 2008 to May 2014, highlighting a prolonged period of illicit activity.

During the sentencing hearing, Turton’s defense attorney, Mr.

Paul Smith, provided context about his client’s mental health struggles, revealing that Turton had been an inpatient at a psychiatric hospital multiple times during the period of offending.

Mr.

Smith stated, “At the time of these offences, he had been an inpatient at a psychiatric hospital on many occasions.

He initially was given treatment in the community, which was trimmed back, and he was, quite frankly, struggling.

He does not now have these difficulties and looks back on that period with great regret and remorse.” Judge Peter Barrie acknowledged the seriousness of the crimes, noting that the high number of images and the presence of Category A material clearly exceeded the threshold for immediate custody.

However, in a decision reflecting a degree of leniency, the judge chose to suspend the prison sentence.

Turton was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.

The court also mandated that he fully cooperate with a sex offender treatment program, complete 20 days of rehabilitation work with the probation service, and perform 150 hours of unpaid community service.

Furthermore, Turton was placed under a sexual offences protection order and was permanently barred from working with children, ensuring he would never again have access to vulnerable minors.
