CHARLES DEVLIN SENT TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN NORTHAMPTON
In May 2022, a disturbing case of child sexual abuse culminated in the imprisonment of Charles Devlin, a man previously residing in Northampton. The case drew significant attention due to the heinous nature of the crimes committed against a young girl, beginning when she was only ten years old and continuing until she reached the age of thirteen.
Devlin, aged 39 at the time, engaged in a prolonged campaign of sexual abuse against the victim, which persisted over several years.
The young girl, demonstrating remarkable courage and resilience, eventually confided in an adult about the abuse, leading to Devlin's arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
Following his arrest, Devlin faced multiple charges, including three counts of child rape.
During the court proceedings at Northampton Crown Court, he did not contest the charges and pleaded guilty to all the offences.
His guilty plea marked a significant step in the pursuit of justice for the victim and underscored the severity of his crimes.
Last week, Devlin was formally sentenced for his actions.
The court handed down a prison term of 15 years and nine months, reflecting the gravity of his offences.
Additionally, he received an extended licence period of five years, which means he will be subject to supervision and restrictions even after serving his prison sentence.
To further protect the community and prevent any future harm, Devlin was also issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
This legal measure restricts his activities and interactions, aiming to mitigate the risk he poses.
Moreover, he will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public awareness of his status as a convicted sex offender.
