CHANTELLE JOHNSON FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE GIRLS IN TEESSIDE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the Middlesbrough community and the wider Teesside area, Chantelle Johnson, a 19-year-old woman from Middlesbrough, has been sentenced to over nine years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the grooming and sexual exploitation of underage girls.

Her actions, which involved elaborate deception and manipulation, have left a trail of emotional and psychological damage to her young victims.

Johnson’s criminal activities came to light after a concerned mother, whose daughter was one of the victims, became suspicious of her child’s online interactions.

The mother had noticed her daughter communicating with what appeared to be a teenage boy.

Upon further investigation, she uncovered a web of lies spun by Johnson, who had fabricated a series of fictional characters to lure her daughter and other girls into her trap.

It was revealed that Johnson had created a total of seven fictitious personas, each with detailed backstories, including a fake family, a deceased child, and a dying father, all designed to deepen the deception and gain the trust of her victims.

One of the most alarming aspects of Johnson’s scheme was her posing as a teenage boy online.

Under this false identity, she used flattery and compliments to attract the attention of the girls, gradually turning conversations towards sexual topics.

The prosecutor, Paul Cleasby, told Teesside Crown Court that Johnson made sexual suggestions to the girls, although they expressed that they were too young to engage in such activities.

Johnson’s manipulative tactics included meeting the girls in person while disguised as the boy, often concealing her face by claiming to wear a hood due to a head injury.

On one occasion, she faked an asthma attack to avoid revealing her identity when challenged by the mother.

Johnson’s deception extended further when she contacted one of the girls directly as herself, claiming that the non-existent boy was “head over heels” for her, which drew the young victim further into her web of lies.

The girls met multiple times, sharing kisses and engaging in sexual activities, all orchestrated by Johnson’s false personas.

She also fabricated a second fictitious boy who messaged another girl, persuading her to send intimate photographs.

Despite arrangements to meet the second girl in person, the phantom boy never appeared.

In addition to these manipulations, Johnson created a third fake profile to continue messaging the second girl, further entrenching her control over the victims.

She also claimed that the first fake boy had an eight-year-old sister who had died from a heart condition, inviting the girls to a funeral that was entirely fabricated.

The court heard that “the whole scenario was made up,” with no funeral or death actually occurring.

To reinforce her lies, Johnson invented a fourth character, purportedly the father of the first fake boy, claiming he was gravely ill and had only hours to live.

She even created three more false profiles, pretending to be other family members, to maintain the illusion of a complex and convincing family background.

Tragically, Johnson’s crimes extended beyond online deception.

It was revealed that she had sexually abused a third girl in person, kissing and touching her, and persuading her to participate in sexual activities online.

She used one of her fake profiles to gain the girl’s trust through a sophisticated grooming process.

Despite being banned from seeing the girl, Johnson continued to stalk her by hanging around her school and attempting to contact her.

Johnson later admitted to police that her motives stemmed from loneliness and a desire for sympathy, claiming she created the fake profiles to make the girls feel sorry for her.

Her reckless behavior culminated in her leaving a SIM card behind in a police vehicle in an attempt to destroy evidence.

She faced multiple charges, including meeting girls following sexual grooming, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault, encouraging a girl to participate in pornography, and perverting the course of justice.

A psychologist’s report highlighted Johnson’s lack of empathy and selfishness, which may explain her manipulative and exploitative conduct.

Judge Howard Crowson described her actions as “rather worrying,” emphasizing her ability to craft plausible lies and manipulate her victims, thereby exploiting and corrupting them.

The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online grooming and deception.
