CARL DUTHIE FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENT BACK TO PRISON FOR SECRET PHONE AND INDECENT IMAGES

In a disturbing series of events that highlight the ongoing threat posed by convicted sex offenders, Carl Duthie of Middlesbrough has once again found himself behind bars.

The latest incident occurred just days after his release from prison, when authorities uncovered a hidden mobile device in his possession that contained indecent images of children, leading to his immediate re-arrest and subsequent sentencing.

To provide a comprehensive overview, Duthie’s criminal history is extensive.

He was originally convicted in 2011 for multiple offences against minors, including four counts of rape.

His initial sentence was a six-year imprisonment term, during which he was also registered as a sex offender, a legal requirement that mandated him to inform authorities of his whereabouts and any changes to his personal details.

However, despite these restrictions, Duthie breached the terms of his registration twice.

The police eventually tracked him down, and during their investigation, they discovered that he possessed indecent images and videos of young boys.

This led to his being branded a significant danger to the community and resulted in a further four-year sentence handed down at Newcastle Crown Court.

Judge Stephen Earl emphasized the severity of his actions, stating, “These children are harmed.

The sort of vile trade in these images can only continue when people like yourself trade in it, to make and download these images for their own sexual gratification.

It’s my view you represent a significant risk of serious harm to children in the future.” In the most recent case, Duthie was released from prison on March 30 of this year.

The very same day, he purchased a mobile phone, which he later denied owning to his risk manager, thus breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

A search of his room uncovered the device, which was concealed inside a jacket, wrapped in a carrier bag, and placed on top of his wardrobe.

The phone was equipped with internet access and several dating applications, including Snapchat and Telegram, raising immediate concerns about potential further offences.

Prosecutor Rachael Glover explained that the phone contained notifications from Snapchat and messages from Telegram.

When questioned by police, Duthie admitted to owning the device but claimed he had not informed the authorities about it.

He stated that he bought the phone on the day of his release and had inserted two SIM cards, allowing him to access the internet.

He also admitted to using dating apps but insisted he did not have any other social media accounts.

During the police interview, Duthie revealed that he had been communicating with a male on Telegram who asked him about his preferred age for sexual partners.

Duthie responded with “younger,” and he subsequently received indecent images of children, which he claimed he had deleted.

Further forensic examination of the phone was ordered to determine the extent of the material stored on it.

Duthie, who appeared unrepresented at the hearing via video link from HMP Durham, contested the police account, asserting that he had not asked for or received indecent images and that he was expecting photos of the person he was chatting with, not others.

Despite his claims, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

Judge Peter Armstrong sentenced Duthie to eight months in prison, citing the seriousness of the offence and the potential risk to children.

He acknowledged that Duthie had taken responsibility for not notifying the authorities about the phone but emphasized that the use of internet-enabled devices like Snapchat and Telegram posed significant dangers.

The judge stated, “The risk is that can lead to serious harm but in this case you only had the phone for 13 days, you admitted straight away what you had done and that is to your credit.

It is an offence which is so serious that only custody can be justified for it and immediate custody at that.” In a broader context, Duthie’s criminal record includes multiple convictions for sexual offences against minors, including rapes, sexual activity with children under 13, and incitement of minors.

His repeated breaches of registration requirements and possession of indecent images underscore the ongoing threat he poses.

Despite living with a partner and attempting to rebuild his life, his history and recent actions demonstrate the persistent danger associated with repeat offenders like him.

Authorities remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and prosecuting such individuals to protect vulnerable children and the community at large.
