LEEDS PAEDOPHILE CAMPBELL LYDEN CAUGHT IN SHOCKING SNAPCHAT CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in Leeds, a 21-year-old man named Campbell Lyden was brought to justice following a series of alarming online interactions with a young girl. The incident came to light when the girl’s father decided to take matters into his own hands, pretending to be his daughter on her Snapchat account to catch the predator in the act.
Leeds Crown Court heard that Lyden had engaged in inappropriate and sexual communications with the girl, who was only 12 years old at the time.
The case unfolded after the girl’s father managed to obtain a crucial piece of evidence—a video of Lyden masturbating, which he captured by taking a screenshot of the explicit content.
This video was later used as key evidence during the court proceedings.
According to prosecutor Soheil Khan, the victim was using the YOLO app, an anonymous question-and-answer platform, within Snapchat when Lyden initiated contact.
The girl believed that only students from her school could message her on the app, leading her to think Lyden was a peer from her own educational environment.
The communication quickly escalated when Lyden responded to a photo she posted on her Snapchat story, complimenting her by saying she was cute.
As their conversations continued, Lyden revealed that he had been masturbating while they were talking, a revelation that prompted the girl to inform her teachers.
The school staff in Leeds then contacted her father, who became understandably angry and took the drastic step of breaking her phone to prevent further contact.
However, the following day, Lyden used the girl’s Snapchat account to continue messaging her, maintaining the inappropriate dialogue.
The situation worsened when Lyden sent a video of himself masturbating directly to the girl’s account.
Her father, suspicious and concerned, took a screenshot of this explicit video.
Lyden, who resides on Amberton Lane in Gipton, Leeds, was subsequently arrested.
During police interviews, he admitted to the offences, expressing confusion about why he had sent the explicit video, despite being aware that the victim was a child.
Lyden explained that he was not sexually active but masturbates multiple times daily, watching pornography featuring women his own age and slightly younger, often selecting the teen category on Pornhub.
Further investigations revealed that Lyden had a history of concerning behavior.
In January 2020, he downloaded a Category C indecent image of a child, and in November 2019, he downloaded a video depicting a man sexually abusing a donkey.
He also has a previous conviction for a sexual assault committed during his teenage years.
Lyden pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including engaging in sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child under 13 to watch a sexual act, making an indecent image of a child, and possessing extreme pornography.
As part of his sentencing, he was handed a three-year community order, which includes requirements to complete a 35-day sex offender treatment program and 40 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years and was placed under a five-year sexual harm prevention order, reflecting the seriousness of his actions and the ongoing risk he poses.
